Getting started

No. Roughly a third of the people who join have never used a barbell. Everybody starts with the same 90-minute assessment, and the first block of programming is written around what you can do on that day.

The sessions that look intimidating from the door are mostly people who were also beginners two years ago.

Yes — the assessment is free and there is no obligation attached to it. You will get a movement screen, a few working sets with a coach, and a written plan you can take to any gym you like.

If you want to try a group session as well, tell us at the assessment and we will book you into one that suits your level.

Training clothes, indoor shoes with a flat sole, and a water bottle. That is genuinely it.

Chalk, belts, straps, wraps and gloves are all on the floor for anyone to use. Towels are in the changing rooms.

Membership

If you are training two or three times a week, Starter is enough and you can move up whenever you want. If you already know you will be in four or more times a week, Performance costs less than paying for the extra sessions.

Elite is for people who want a programme written specifically for them rather than adapted from a block.

Starter can be cancelled at any time with no notice period. Performance runs month to month after the first month. Elite has a three-month minimum because the coaching commitment is booked that far ahead.

Freezing is free for up to three months a year — injury, travel, or a period where you know you cannot make it.

Yes, up to three months a year at no cost. Email us or tell a coach on the floor and it takes effect on the next billing date. Your programme and history are still there when you come back.

Training here

Yes, with any coach on the team. Sessions are sold in blocks of six so there is enough time for something to change, and Elite members get four hours a month included.

Most people use a block to learn the lifts properly and then move into a group programme.

Every coached session here is a small group — capped between eight and twelve depending on the programme. There are 46 of them a week across eight programmes.

They are coached sessions rather than classes: you are following your own written programme with a coach in the room, not copying the front of the room in unison.

Almost always, and the assessment is where we work out how. Sam Armitage is a registered physiotherapist and screens every new member.

If something needs clinical treatment rather than coaching we will tell you plainly and refer you on. We would rather lose a month than make it worse.

Sessions are capped, so the floor never exceeds what the equipment can take. The open floor is busiest 17:00 to 19:00 on weekdays and quietest before 07:00 and after 20:30.

Live capacity for every session is shown when you book.
