The most obvious change in event design over the last three years is not a colour or a flower. It is that rooms are increasingly built rather than dressed.
Structure over surface
Clients are spending on things that change the shape of a room — flown structures, false ceilings, screens that divide — rather than on more objects placed on tables. The result reads as more considered and, oddly, often costs less than a heavy floral programme.
Fewer stems, better placed
Floral budgets are being concentrated into one or two significant installations instead of spread across every surface. A single suspended piece over a dance floor does more work than forty centrepieces.
Light as the primary material
Lighting has quietly become the largest single line in many of our design budgets. It changes a room more cheaply than anything physical and it can change it more than once in a night.
Reuse became a specification
Clients now ask what happens to the build afterwards. We design for reclaim: modular structures, hire-back furniture and flowers that go to a second home the following morning.
