Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter

Overview

The Amalfi Coast is short — you could run its length in three hours — which is exactly why it rewards a yacht. The road is a single lane of switchbacks and coaches; the water is empty by comparison.

A charter here is a sequence of anchorages rather than a passage: Positano for the morning, a cove off Praiano for lunch, Amalfi at four, Capri once the day boats have gone.

September is the month. The sea is at its warmest, the light has turned, and the towns have handed themselves back to the people who live in them.

7-Day Amalfi Coast Charter

Day 01 · Naples

Board at Molo Luise in the late afternoon and clear the bay before dinner.

Activity: Harbour briefing and a slow run out past Posillipo

Day 02 · Positano

The classic approach — arrive from the west so the town opens up all at once.

Activity: Tender ashore for the Spiaggia Grande and the Via Positanesi
Dining: Lunch at a table on the sand
Anchorage: Off Fornillo

Day 03 · Amalfi

A working town with a cathedral out of all proportion to it.

Activity: The Duomo, the paper museum, and the Valle delle Ferriere if anyone wants to walk

Day 04 · Capri

Anchor on the south side and let the day-trippers have the Marina Grande.

Activity: Faraglioni at first light, then the Grotta Bianca

Day 05 · Ischia

Volcanic, greener than Capri, and almost nobody stays the night.

Activity: Thermal springs at Sorgeto, reached only from the water

Day 06 · Nerano

One bay, two restaurants, and the reason people come back.

Day 07 · Naples

A short morning run back with breakfast under way.

Activity: Disembark by 09:00, transfer to Capodichino

Marina del Cantone
Deep, sheltered from the north-west, and the best lunch on the coast.
Baia di Ieranto
No road access. Swim only, and empty after five.
Marina Piccola, Capri
Tight and busy at noon; excellent at seven in the evening.
Cala della Regina Giovanna
A Roman fish pond you can anchor beside.

Beaches

Fornillo
Positano without the crowd, ten minutes on foot from the Spiaggia Grande.
Bagni Regina Giovanna
Rock platforms and clear water below Sorrento.
Cala di Mitigliano
Reached from the water only, opposite Capri.

Tables worth booking

Lo Scoglio, Nerano
Tie the tender to the jetty. Book at least a week ahead.

A wooden shack with a fish grill and a boat that fetches you.
